Festivities and Celebrations in Aulesti

  • San Vicente (22nd January)
    Celebrated on the first Saturday after 22nd January in the District of Narea. The programme features a mass, children’s games, ‘Mus’ and ‘Brisca’ card game championships, music and festivities, hot chocolate for all and many other activities.
  • Saint Blaise (3rd February)
    Saint Blaise day is the feast day of Elizatxu. Festivities take place in Goikokale the same day the mass is celebrated in the hermitage, as well as on the following Saturday with children’s games, accordion players, along with other music and festivities, and much more fun.
  • Carnival
    Only celebrated in more recent times, this festivity is celebrated on Carnival Sunday, with a passacaglia starting at around 11 a.m., brass band, popular meal, pig chase, fancy dress contest, along with much more.
  • Saint John the Baptist (24th June)
    Patron saint festivities with bonfires, brass band, music and festivities, story writing contest, traditional sports, accordion players, ‘Brisca’ card game championships, Basque handball matches, etc.
  • Mary Magdalene (22nd July)
    Feast celebrated in the District of Urriola on the first Saturday after 22nd July. The programme includes a mass, accordion players, slingshot championship, ‘Mus’ and ‘Brisca’ card game championships, along with music and festivities.
  • Saint Lawrence (10th August)
    Feast celebrated in the District of Zubero. The programme includes a mass, paella contest, neighbourhood competitions of all sorts, etc.
  • Saint John the Beheaded (29th August)
    Feast celebrated in the hermitage of the District of Ibarrola. The programme offers: a triathlon, ‘Mus’ card game championships, children’s activities, music and other festivities.
  • Saint Euphemia (16th September)
    The custom of celebrating mass in the Santa Eufemia Hermitage in Urregarai is maintained, although there is another mass on the first Sunday following 16th September, on which day there is a race from the field to the hermitage, music and festivities, a rock festival, and even an ‘irrintzi’ contest, where the best Basque sheperd’s mountain call can be heard.
  • Saint Martin (11th November)
    Feast celebrated in the District of Malats on the first Saturday after 11th November. In the programme, we find a mass, children’s games, ‘Mus’ and ‘Brisca’ card game championships, music and festivities, and more.
